States Announce “Sweep” for Global Privacy Control Compliance
Privacy news never stops, so we’ll keep this one short and sweet.
Last week, California, Colorado, and Connecticut jointly announced a “privacy sweep” of commercial websites to identify those not honoring the Global Privacy Control (GPC). The GPC is a browser extension that sends an automatic signal asking commercial websites not to sell or share personal information associated with that browser instance to third parties. The three-C states are contacting businesses that do not honor the GPC and asking them to comply.
Rather than wait, we recommend you check your site. Information about implementing the GPC is available here.
As always, we remind you that a client alert is not legal advice and urge you to reach out to a member of our team with specific questions as they arise.
