New Sexual Harassment Training Resource for Maine Employers

Category:

Peter Lowe recently participated in a panel convened by the Maine Human Rights Commission and the Maine Department of Labor to develop a sexual harassment prevention training video for Maine employers and employees. The recording is now available.

View the Training Video

The training video was created as a resource to help employers meet the training requirements contained in 26 M.R.S. § 807(3) for employers with 15 or more employees. Under Maine law, covered employers must provide sexual harassment education and training to new employees within one year of their commencement of employment. The statute specifies that the training must address, among other topics, the illegality of sexual harassment, the definition of sexual harassment under state and federal laws, examples of prohibited conduct, complaint procedures, and protections against retaliation.

We often receive questions from clients about how to satisfy this training requirement, and this video offers a helpful solution. Keep in mind that, according to the MDOL, the video does not fulfill the separate supervisor training requirement.
