Brann & Isaacson Closes Year of Growth with Acquisition of Dover-Foxcroft Practice

Category:

Brann & Isaacson is expanding its respected Maine practice with a new satellite office in Dover-Foxcroft. Following many years of serving as a referral source for Piscataquis and Penobscot County residents in need of corporate and business law, estate planning, and commercial real estate services, on January 1st, B&I will take over the former Hayes Law Offices.

This expansion follows a landmark year of growth for B&I. The firm hired four new attorneys in 2025, and looks forward to welcoming its former summer associate after she completes law school. This growth has launched B&I into the top 10 largest law firms as ranked by Mainebiz.

B&I represents clients of all sizes (from the largest and best–known companies in America, to Maine companies, families, cities and schools) in matters of all sizes (from local board hearings to the U.S. Supreme Court). With the closure of Hayes Law Offices after 136 years of operation, and the increasing ubiquitousness of remote conferencing tools, B&I saw a unique opportunity to directly and creatively provide legal services in an underserved area by expanding its footprint with a third office location.

“There is a large, unmet market in Maine today with fewer and fewer rural practitioners, yet people in these areas continue to have legal needs,” said Stacy Stitham, Managing Partner at B&I. “This is a market that needs business law services. We’re thrilled to be able to serve clients throughout this region with a satellite office, remote tools, and all the benefits that modern technology brings.”

There is also a compelling personal story behind this development: Stacy Stitham is a direct descendant of Hayes’ founding partners, C.W. and H.M. Hayes. Born and raised in Dover-Foxcroft, Stacy is a fifth-generation attorney whose family practiced at this rural Maine firm for more than a century. The legal legacy of Stacy’s family continues in Stacy. Her grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather all served in turn as President of the Maine State Bar Association, an honor Stacy undertook as President of the Maine State Bar Association in 2023.

“It’s exciting to see the wheel come full circle,” said Stacy, smiling. “I used to play ‘lawyer’ as a child in those offices. I’m thrilled that Brann & Isaacson will continue to be able to provide an alternative option for business and estate planning legal services in the region. And I hope this serves as a model for other law firms in rural states, that we can innovate and serve residents, regardless of their geography.”

To facilitate the transition, B&I has hired Hayes’ paralegal of 30 years, Amanda Sickles, who will continue to use her decades of experience and expertise in B&I’s satellite office to serve the residents of Piscataquis County and elsewhere. The new Brann & Isaacson office at 592 Bangor Road will be open by appointment only, starting in January 2026.
